ADULT EXTENDED STUDIES
In addition to our Sunday School and Fellowship Dinners classes, you are invited to join us for a variety of ongoing Bible studies. Pre-Registration is required and can be completed by contacting Sarah Christie, Church Educator (336-228-1703) or email Sarah. Simply request the class and time of your choice. A registration fee/ book fee is requested for some of the courses. You may refer to your class listing for the amount. Please make checks payable to: First Presbyterian Church and note the class title on the memo line. Scholarships are available upon request. You may also refer to our homepage under “Adult Ministries” and then “Adult Extended Studies” for a downloadable brochure or take a brochure from one of the many locations throughout the church. Classes offered include:
SUNDAY EVENING STUDIES
Sunday Night Supper and Bible Study, Sunday, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m., Genie and Jack Martin, leaders (begins September 10th). The Sunday night group meets for a light supper, fellowship and Bible study. The group plans to study Philippians this fall. Pre-Registration is required but no fee is charged for this course.
TUESDAY MORNING STUDIES
Ron Shive, Frank Longest, and Chris Davis, leaders (begins Tuesday, September 12). The men’s study will go through the Gospel of Matthew, usually studying a chapter a week. No Registration fee or Pre-Registration required.
The Minor Prophets - Tuesday, 9:00 – 11:00 a.m., Marion Currie, leader, (begins September 5- Orientation Day). Come “Major in the Minors” with us! What’s beneath the surface of these 12 short written prophecies? This group will be searching through the Scriptures for God’s compassionate loving care. Registration is required but no fee is charged for this course.
Faith and Families- Tuesday, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Sarah Christie, leader. Parents of young children can come together and share parenting joys and concerns and support for one another in the journey of raising children in faith. Pre-registration is requested, no registration fee is required. The group will be using Eileen Marx’s humorous book, Weaving Faith and Family, When You’re Hanging on by a Thread. Childcare available at no cost. Class will meet in Room 229 (Jr. High Classroom). Book fee is $15.00.
WEDNESDAY MORNING STUDIES
The Gospel of Matthew – Wednesday, 10:00 – 11:30 a.m., Ron Shive and Cathy Wall, leaders (classes held weekly September 12-December 12 and January 9 – May 1.) Book fee per student - $10.00. The study will cover a chapter of Matthew’s gospel a week using the book, Justo L. Gonzales' Three Months with Matthew.
Wednesday Evening Studies
Disciple I - Wednesday, 6:30- 7:30 p.m., (September 13 – March 21) Genie Martin and Ron Shive, leaders. This 34-week course will move through the Biblical story from Creation to the New Jerusalem. The topics will fix the sequence of the Biblical story in the minds of the participants. Course fee is $35.00 |
