Providing Meals for Shelter

Notes on providing the evening meal to Allied Churches of Alamance County’s Homeless Shelter:

Please call Allied Churches ahead of time at 229-0881 to find out the approximate number of homeless shelter guests you should prepare for. (Has ranged between 35 and 60 guests recently.)

Please prepare a nutritionally balanced meal and dessert.

Drinks are optional since the shelter prepares tea and coffee for the quests. (However, please provide drinking cups for the tea and water.)

Please provide the paper products needed for the guests to consume your prepared meal. (Dinner plates, desert plates, utensils, napkins, bowls, etc.)

Please provide two gallons of milk for the shelter to use on breakfast cereal for the quests the following morning.

Please provide enough servers to serve your meal. Please designate a server to say the prayer. Please bring your serving utensils.

Please bring enough plastic wrap for up to twelve (12) plates to hold for late arriving quests (ask the shelter manager how many plates you will need to hold back that particular night) and for any leftovers (the shelter and Good Shepard Kitchen can use ALL leftovers).

Arrive at the shelter at 206 N. Fisher Street around 7:00 p.m. (8:00 - summer hours). Please make sure that all servers sign in on the Volunteer Log Book.

Plan to serve around 7:30 p.m. (8:30 - summer).

Please make sure to sign out on the Volunteer Log Book.

Please call Dora McGill (585-0493) or Lois Priest (260-5268) if you have any questions or concerns.

See Ideas for Shelter Meals for recipes and more.
